北半球の暖帯から寒帯に分布するヨモギ属の園芸品種です。「あさぎりそう（朝霧草）」に似ていて、高さは１５〜３０センチほどになり、マウンド状に広がります。茎はよく分枝して、羽状に深裂した青灰色の葉をつけます。夏ごろ穂状花序をだして、目立たない黄色い頭花を咲かせます。痩せた土地でもよく生育し、ロックガーデンなどに植栽されます。
写真の品種は、イギリスで作出された「シーフォーム（cv. Sea Foam）」。

キク科ヨモギ属の半常緑多年草で、学名は Artemisia versicolor。英名は Curlicue sage、Curlicue wormwood。

The Curlicue sage (Artemisia versicolor) belongs to Asteraceae (the Aster family). It is a semi-evergreen perennial herb that is a horticultural species of the genus Artemisia found in the warm and cold zones of the Northern Hemisphere. It is similar to the "Silvermound artemisia" and grows to a height of 15 to 30 cm, spreading in a mound-like shape. The stem is well branched and bears pinnately lobed blue-gray leaves. In the summer, it produces spikes and blooms inconspicuous yellow flower-heads. It grows well in poor soil and is often planted in rock gardens. The variety shown in the photo is "Sea Foam", which was developed in England.
