わが国の九州に分布しています。山地の草原に生え、高さは40〜75センチになります。茎葉は細く、無柄で、羽状に浅裂し、裂片に細鋸歯があります。7月から9月ごろ、白色または淡紅色の頭花を咲かせます。頭花は直径12〜13ミリで、総苞は鐘形です。 
キク科ノコギリソウ属の多年草で、学名は Achillea alpina ssp. subcartilaginea。英名はありません。 
"Aso-nokogiri-so" (Achillea alpina ssp. subcartilaginea) belongs to Asteraceae (the Aster family). It is a perennial herb that is distributed in Kyushu, Japan. This herb grows in montane meadows and its height is 40-75 cm. The cauline leaves are slender, sessile and pinnately lobed. The lobes are fine serrated. The white or pink red flower-heads will bloom from July to September. They are 12-13 mm in diameter, and the involucre are bell-shaped.
