南アフリカが原産です。茎は木質化して潅木状になり、高さは１〜２メートルになります。茎に棘があるのが特徴です。枝は短く、小さな仮葉が密生します。観葉植物として栽培されています。シノニムの種小名は、南アフリカの植物学者、ピーター・マックオーアン（Peter MacOwan）に因みます。和名では「たちぼうき（立ち箒）」と呼ばれます。

ユリ科キジカクシ属の常緑小低木で、学名は Asparagus myriocladus（syn. Asparagus macowanii）。英名はありません。

Asparagus myriocladus belongs to Liliaceae (the Lily family). It is an evergreen shrub that is native to South Africa. The stem lignifies, forms shrub and can reach 1-2 m in height. It is defined by spinescent stems. The branches are short and covered with thick phyllodes. This shrub is cultivated as an ornamental foliage plant. The species synonym is named after South African botanist, Peter MacOwan.
