地中海沿岸のヨーロッパや北アフリカが原産です。海岸沿いの道ばたなどに生え、高さは２０センチほどになります。茎は直立し、上部で分枝します。葉は長楕円形からへら形で全縁、毛に被われ、短い葉柄があります。５月から６月ごろ、茎頂に濃黄色の頭花を咲かせます。頭花は直径１〜２センチで、周囲に葉のように長い外側の総苞片があります。果実は痩果で、冠毛がつきます。

キク科アステリスクス属の１〜２年草で、学名は Asteriscus aquaticus (syn. Bupthalmum aquaticum)。英名は Aster golden star、Golden starwort。

The Aster golden star (Asteriscus aquaticus) belongs to Asteraceae (the Aster family). It is a perennial herb that is native to Europe and North Africa along the Mediterranean coast. It grows along roadsides along the coast and grows to a height of about 20 cm. The stem is erect and branched at the top. The leaves are oblong to spatulate, entire, hairy, and have short petioles. Dark yellow flower heads bloom at the top of the stems from May to June. The flower head is 1 to 2 cm in diameter and is surrounded by long, leaf-like outer involucral scales. The fruit is an achene with a pappus.
