中国の南西部、ヒマラヤ周辺の雲南省などに分布しています。丘陵地帯や草原に生え、高さは２５〜３０センチになります。基部の葉は披針形でロゼットを形成し、茎にはわずかに線形の葉がつきます。夏に、大きな紫色の頭花を茎の先に咲かせます。中国名は「雲南紫菀（yun nan zi wan）。

キク科シオン属の多年草で、学名は Aster yunnanensis。英名はありません。

The Aster yunnanensis belongs to Asteraceae (the Aster family). It is a perennial herb that is distributed in southwestern China and Yunnan Province around the Himalayas. It grows on hillsides and grasslands and is 25-30 cm tall. The basal leaves are lanceolate and form a rosette, with slightly linear leaves on the stem. In summer, large purple flower-heads bloom at the end of the stem. Its Chinese name is "雲南紫菀" (yun nan zi wan).
