The "Asuka-inode" (Polystichum fibrillosopaleaceum) belongs to the family Dryopteridaceae. It is an evergreen fern that is distributed on the Pacific coast of Honshu, from Miyagi Prefecture west to the Tokai region, Kochi Prefecture in Shikoku and Oita Prefecture in Kyushu. It grows in the forest floor and on the edges of forests in mountainous areas, and is 80 to 100 cm tall. The leaves are bipinnate compound, dark green and shiny. The scales at the base of the petiole are narrow and lanceolate, and dark brown. The sorus is located between the midrib and the leaf margin, and the indusium is entire. The Japanese name is derived from Asukayama in Kita Ward, Tokyo.
