オーストラリアの東部、クイーンズランド州北部からニューサウスウェールズ州南部に分布しています。雨林に生え、高さは３０メートルほどになります。樹皮には葉痕が環状紋となって残ります。葉は直径１．５メートルほどの円形で、掌状に深裂します。８月から９月ごろ、葉の基部から円錐花序をだし、クリーム色の花を咲かせます。果実は楕円形の核果で、黒く熟します。

ヤシ科ビロウ属の常緑高木で、学名は Livistona australis。英名は Australian cabbage palm、Australian fan palm。

The Australian cabbage palm (Livistona australis) belongs to Arecaceae (the Palm family). It is a tall evergreen tree that is distributed in the eastern part of Australia, from northern Queensland to southern New South Wales. It grows in rainforests and can reach a height of about 30 m. The bark bears an annular pattern of leaf scars. The leaves are 1.5 m in diameter, circular, and deeply lobed in a palmate shape. The panicles emerge from the base of the leaves in August and September, producing cream-colored flowers. The fruit is an elliptic kernel that ripens to black.
