Australian red cedar (Cedrela australis) belongs to Meliaceae (the Mahogany family). It is a tall deciduous tree that is distributed in India, South-east Asia and eastern Australia; from Queensland to New Sowth Wales. This tall tree grows in the laurel forests and mixed forests, and can reach 20-30 m in height. Leaves are imparipinnate, and leaflets are narrow-ovate to lanceolate, 5-7 pairs. New leaves are colored pale ponceau. In summer, large panicles with small whitish flowers are seen at the tips of branches. Fruits are capsules, and seeds have two long wings.
