わが国の本州、関東地方から中部地方に分布しています。山地の林内や林縁に生え、高さは１．５〜２メートルになります。茎葉は長楕円形で、羽状に中裂から深裂し、とげがあります。９月から１１月ごろ、淡い紅紫色の頭花を咲かせます。総苞にはくも毛があり、総苞片は７列で、卵形から長楕円形です。

キク科アザミ属の多年草で、学名は Cirsium microspicatum。英名はありません。

"Azuma-yama-azami" (Cirsium microspicatum) belongs to Asteraceae (the Aster family). It is a perennial herb that is native to central Japan; Kanto and Chubu district of Honshu. This herb grows in montane woodlands or forestedges and can reach 1.5-2 m in height. The cauline leaves are oblong and intermediate to deep pinnatifid. The pale magenta flower-heads appear from September to November. The bract has spiderweb-like hairs. The phyllaries are arranged in 7 rows and ovate to oblong.
