わが国の本州、中部地方以北から東北地方に分布しています。乾燥した山地草原や海岸の草地な生え、高さは20〜30センチになります。根生葉はへら形、茎葉は狭楕円形です。4月から6月ごろ、花茎の先に直径3〜4センチの頭花を咲かせます。舌状花は淡い紫色です。総苞片には密に軟毛があります。 
キク科ムカシヨモギ属の多年草で、学名は Erigeron thunbergii。英名はありません。 
"Azuma-giku" (Erigeron thunbergii) belongs to the Asteraceae (the Aster family). It is a perennial herb that is distributed from Chubu district north to Tohoku district of Honshu. This herb grows in dry mountain grasslands and coastal grasslands, and its height is 20-30 cm. The basal leaves are spatulate, and the cauline leaves are narrow elliptic. The flower-head is 3-4 cm in diameter, and blooms atop of flowering stalk from April to June. The ray-flowers are pale purple. The involucres are very pubescent.
