The Korean grape (Vitis thunbergii) belongs to Vitaceae (the Grape family). It is a deciduous woody trailing vine that is distrubuted to Honshu, Shikoku and Kyushu of Japan, as well as Taiwan, the Korean Peninsula and China. This vine grows in hillside to montane forest edges and climbs up adjascent shrubs and trees by tendrils. It is dioecious. The leaves are ovate to broad ovate-deltoid, alternate and usually divided into 3-5 lobes. The small yellowish green flowers come in the panicles that are opposite side of the leaves from June to August. The fruits are round berries, ripen in black and edible. In Taiwanese Chinese, it is called "細本葡萄", and "小葉葡萄" (xiao ye pu tao) in Chinese.
