The Strawberry hedgehog cactus (Echinocereus engelmannii) belongs to Cactaceae (the Cactus family). It is a cylindrical shaped cactus that is distributed from the southwestern United States to northern Mexico. It grows in deserts and dry grasslands, and can reach a height of around 60 cm. It usually grows in clusters, and sometimes there are more than 20 in a group. The stem is usually around 4 to 9 cm in diameter, with around 10 ribs, and is covered in large thorns. There are 2 to 6 central spines, which are 7 to 8 cm long and come in a variety of colors, including brown, yellow, gray and white. There are 6 to 12 radial spines, which are 2 cm long and white, and are arranged in a neat rosette shape. From April to May, it produces bright magenta flowers at the top of the stem.
