アメリカ南西部のテキサス州からニューメキシコ州それにメキシコ北部に分布しています。石灰岩質の砂礫地に生え、高さは１０〜４０センチほどになります。基部から分枝し、全体が棘に被われています。この棘の色は、生育環境によって異なるため、横縞のようになります。４月から５月ごろ、黄色からピンク色の花をいっぱい咲かせます。

サボテン科エキノケレウス属のエビサボテンで、学名は Echinocereus pectinatus var. neomexicanus。英名は Texas rainbow hedgehog、Yellow rainbow cactus。

The Texas rainbow hedgehog (Echinocereus pectinatus var. neomexicanus) belongs to Cactaceae (the Cactus family). It is a hedgehog cactus that is native to the southwestern United States from Texas to New Mexico and northern Mexico. This cactus grows on limestone gravel and can reach 10-40 cm in height. It branches from the base and is entirely covered with spines. The color of this spine depends on the growing environment, so it looks like a horizontal stripe. A lot of yellow to pink flowers come in April to May.
