The Lady finger cactus (Echinocereus pentalophus) belongs to Cactaceae (the Cactus family). It is a perennial herb that is distributed from southern Texas in the United States to central and eastern Mexico. It grows in dry forests, shrublands, and grasslands, and is about 20 cm tall. It is well branched, forming dense clumps of finger-like stems about 1 m in diameter. The cylindrical shoots are 20 to 70 cm long, 1 to 6 cm in diameter, yellowish green to grayish green, and have 3 to 8 ribs. The ridges have one central spine and three to eight radial spines. The flowers are pink, 10 to 15 cm in diameter, funnel-shaped, and bloom from April to May.
