The "Eizan-sumire" (Viola eizanensis) belongs to Violaceae (the Viola family). It is a perennial herb that is an endemic species of Japan and distributed from Honshu to Shikoku and Kyushu. This herb grows in montane forests or slopes and can reach 5-15 cm in height. The leaves are trifoliate and finely dissected. The pale rose-pink to white flowers come in March to May. The petals have reddish-purple stripes on the surface. The lateral petals have hairs at the bases.
