エンシクリア属は、中央アメリカから南アメリカにかけて広く分布しています。本種は、コスタリカとパナマの高地に生え、着生します。初夏に偽鱗茎の頂部から伸びる花穂に、淡い黄緑色の地に大きな紫黒色の斑点のある花をいっぱい咲かせます。唇弁は紫紅色で、芳香があります。

The genus Enciclaria is widely distributed throughout Central and South America. The Encyclia prismatocarpa grows in the highlands of Costa Rica and Panama, where it is epiphytic. It produces full, large, purple-black spotted flowers on a pale yellow-green background in early summer in spikes that grow from the tops of pseudobulbs. The labellum is purple-red and fragrant.
