ニレ科エノキ属の落葉高木で、学名は Celtis sinensis var. japonica (syn. Celtis sinensis)。英名はありません。
The "Enoki" (Celtis sinensis var. japonica) belongs to Ulmaceae (the Elm family). It is a tall deciduous tree that is distributed from Honshu to Shikoku, Kyushu of Japan, as well as Taiwan, the Korean Peninsula and China. This tree grows in sunny places. The barks are blackish-gray and nearly smooth. The leaves are round-elliptic with small toothed edges at upper-half of leaf blades. The small pale yellowish-green flowers come in April to May. The fruits ripen in red in October and edible. It was planted in Ichirizuka in the Edo period (1603-1868). The 14th photo is a kind of gall. In Taiwanese Chinese, it is called "朴樹" and in Chinese "朴树" (po shu).
