The Green bristle grass (Setaria viridis) belongs to Poaceae (the Grass family). It is an annual herb that is native from Europe to East Asia. This herb can be found commonly in the roadsides and openings, and can reach 50-80 cm in height. Green spikes are borne on the top of stems from August to November. They are weeping at the tip of flowering clusters. In the Kanto region, it is also called "Nekojarashi". In Taiwanese Chinese, it is "狗尾草", and in Chinese, it is "狗尾草" (gou wei cao). It is a C4 plant (Plants with C4-type photosynthesis).
