The Snow banana (Ensete glaucum) belongs to Musaceae (the Banana family). It is an evergreen herb that is distributed from Yunnan Province in the central-southern China to Nepal, India, the Indochina Peninsula, and to Indonesia and Papua New Guinea. It is cold hardy, with a single pseudostem that is gray-green and waxy, and grows to a height of 5 m or more. The leaves are about 3 m long and blue-green in color. Large, drooping inflorescences are produced. The fruits are ovoid and ripen to yellow. It is also cultivated, and its fruits and seeds are edible. In Chinese, it is called "象腿蕉" (xiang tui jiao).
