The Stream orchid (Epipactis gigantea) belongs to Orchdaceae (the Orchid family). It is a perennial herb that is distributed along the Pacific coast of North America, from British Columbia, Canada to Mexico. It grows along springs and riverbanks and is 30-90 cm tall. The stems are erect and the broadly lanceolate leaves grow in alternate. From March to August, flowers with greenish brown sepals bloom from the upper leaf axils. The petals are pale reddish-purple with purple streaks. The labellum has three lobes, the middle of which is waxy and pink or salmon-pink in color.
