北アメリカの太平洋岸、カナダのブリティッシュコロンビア州からメキシコにかけて分布しています。泉のほとりや河岸などに生え、高さは３０〜９０センチになります。茎は直立し、広披針形の葉が互生します。３月から８月ごろ、上部の葉腋から緑褐色の萼片をもつ花を咲かせます。花弁は淡い紅紫色で紫色の筋が入ります。唇弁は３裂し、真ん中の舌状になったところは蝋質でピンク色またはサーモンピンク色をしています。 |

The Stream orchid (Epipactis gigantea) belongs to Orchdaceae (the Orchid family). It is a perennial herb that is distributed along the Pacific coast of North America, from British Columbia, Canada to Mexico. It grows along springs and riverbanks and is 30-90 cm tall. The stems are erect and the broadly lanceolate leaves grow in alternate. From March to August, flowers with greenish brown sepals bloom from the upper leaf axils. The petals are pale reddish-purple with purple streaks. The labellum has three lobes, the middle of which is waxy and pink or salmon-pink in color. |
