ヨーロッパの地中海沿岸からアフリカ北・東部に広く分布しています。高さは５メートルほどになります。なめらかな明るい緑色の葉は輪生します。春咲きで、灰白色のベル形の花を咲かせます。

ツツジ科エリカ属の常緑低木で、学名は Erica arborea。英名は Tree heath。

The Tree heath (Erica arborea) belongs to Ericaceae (the Azalea family). It is a small evergreen tree that is native to the coastal areas of Mediterranian Sea to northen and eastern Africa. This tree can reach about 5 m in height. The leaves are smooth, bright green and whorled. The grayish white, bell-shaped flowers come in spring.
