北アメリカのロッキー山脈の北西部に分布しています。亜高山帯から高山帯の岩礫地に生え、高さは５〜１５センチになります。基部の葉は楕円形から円形で、葉柄があります。茎葉はわずかで小さなものです。７月から８月ごろ、花茎を伸ばして黄色い花を咲かせます。写真上・中は園芸品種の「カナリーバード（cv. Canary Bird）」。

キク科ムカシヨモギ属の多年草で、学名は Erigeron aureus。英名は Golden fleabane。

The Golden fleabane (Erigeron aureus) belongs to Asteraceae (the Aster family). It is a perennial herb that is found in the northwestern Rocky Mountains of North America. It grows in subalpine to alpine rocky gravelly areas and is 5 to 15 cm tall. The basal leaves are elliptic to circular and petiolate. The cauline leaves are few and small, and around July to August, the flower stalks extend to produce yellow flowers. The photos above and middle show the garden variety 'Canary Bird'.
