イギリスからピレネー山脈、アルプスの西部に分布しています。酸性岩地の荒野や林に生え、高さは７５センチほどになります。葉は緑色で線形、４個から５個が輪生します。５月から８月ごろ、長い葉が密生した穂状花序に藤桃色または白色の花を咲かせます。紫褐色の葯が花冠から突き出しています。

ツツジ科エリカ属の常緑小低木で、学名は Erica vagans。英名は Cornish heath。

Cornish heath (Erica vagans) belongs to Ericaceae (the Azalea family). It is an evergreen shrub that is native to Great Britain, the Pyrenees and the western Alps. This shrub grows in heaths or woodlands over acid rocks, and can reach about 75 cm in height. The leaves are mid-green linear and arranged in fours or fives whorled. The lilac-pink or white flowers bloom in long dense leafy spikes from May to August. The purple-brown anthers are protruded from the collora.
