The Eupatorium atrorubens belongs to Asteraceae (the Aster family). It is an evergreen shrub that is native to the southern part of Mexico. It grows to nearly 1 m in height. The leaves are large, ovate, serrated, and opposite. The stem and bracts are covered with short dark red hairs. Cymose inflorescences are produced at the stem tips and bear pale lilac-colored flower heads. It is a fall bloomer by nature, but in the greenhouse it also blooms in early spring.
