The Boreal draba (Draba borealis) belongs to Brassicaceae (the Mustard family). It is a perennial herb that is distributed from the Shimokita Peninsula in Aomori Prefecture on Honshu to Hokkaido, as well as from the Russian Far East to Siberia, northern Europe, and northern North America. It grows on rocky coastal areas and subalpine gravelly soils, reaching a height of 10 to 20 cm. The entire plant is covered with star-shaped hairs. The basal leaves are obovate, while the stem leaves are broadly elliptical. From around May to July, it extends a flower stalk and produces a raceme bearing 5 to 20 white flowers. The flowers have four petals, and the tips of the petals are concave. The fruit is a long-elliptical, short-horned capsule, characterized by a slight spiral twist.
