わが国の北海道と本州北部に分布しています。亜高山帯から高山帯の砂礫地や草地などに生え、高さは１５～４０センチになります。根生葉は倒卵形で先端が丸く、縁に粗い鋸歯があります。茎葉は長楕円形で、基部は茎を抱きます。葉には２分岐毛と星状毛があります。６月から７月ごろ、茎頂に総状花序をだし、白色の花を咲かせます。花は長さ６～１０ミリあり、倒卵形の花弁が４個つきます。果実は細い円柱形の蒴果で、斜め上に広がりながらつきます。

アブラナ科ハタザオ属の多年草で、学名は Arabis serrata var. glauca (syn. Arabis glauca)。英名はありません。

The "Ezono-iwa-hatazao" (Arabis serrata var. glauca) belongs to Brassicaceae (the Mustard family). It is a perennial herb that is distributed in Hokkaido and northern Honshu in Japan. It grows in gravelly areas and grasslands from the subalpine to alpine zones, reaching a height of 15 to 40 cm. The basal leaves are obovate with rounded tips and coarse serrations along the margins. The cauline leaves are oblong-lanceolate, with the base enfold the stem. Leaves bear dichotomous hairs and stellate hairs. From June to July, a raceme of white flowers appears at the stem apex. Flowers are 6-10 mm long with four obovate petals. The fruit is a slender, cylindrical capsule that spreads diagonally upward.
