The "Ezo-oobako" (Plantago camtschatica) belongs to Plantaginaceae (the Plantain family). It is a perennial herb that is distributed from Hokkaido to Honshu and Kyushu on the Sea of Japan side, and along the coast of the Sea of Okhotsk, as well as the Korean Peninsula, the Kuril Islands, the Kamchatka Peninsula, Sakhalin, and the Primorsky Krai. It grows on sandy soil along the coast and grows to a height of 15 to 30 cm. The leaves are oblong or oblong-ovate, with slightly pointed tips, and grow in clusters. The edges have indistinct serrations. The entire plant is covered with white soft hairs. From May to August, it extends its scape and produces numerous flowers in spikes at the top of the stem. There are four stamens that protrude from the corolla. The fruit is a narrow ovate capsule.
