北半球の温帯に広く分布しています。わが国でも北海道北部では早くから帰化していました。今では北海道から本州、四国で見ることができます。高さは１０〜６０センチほどになり、茎の上部で分枝します。茎葉は狭長楕円形から線状倒被針形で先端が尖り、ほとんど全縁です。春から秋にかけて、小さな黄色い花を咲かせます。

アブラナ科エゾスズシロ属の一年草または二年草で、学名は Erysimum cheiranthoides。英名は Wormseed wallflower。

Wormseed wallflower (Erysimum cheiranthoides) belongs to Brassicaceae (the Mustard family). It is an annual or biennial herb that is distributed widely in the Northern Hemisphere. It was introduced into northern Hokkaido of Japan in ancient days. Nowadays, it can be found in Hokkaido, Honshu and Shikoku. This herb can reach 10-60 cm in height, and are branched at the upper stems. The cauline leaves are narrow oblong to linear oblanceolate with acute tips and mostly entire margines. The small yellow flowers bloom from spring to fall.
