わが国の北海道の中部に分布しています。低地から高山帯に生え、高さは１〜２メートルになります。茎葉は３全裂し、さらに裂片は浅く欠刻状に分裂します。８月から９月ごろ、濃紫色の兜形の花を総状花序に咲かせます。花柄には屈毛があります。花粉は「まるはなばち（丸花蜂）」によって媒介されます。

キンポウゲ科トリカブト属の多年草で、学名は Aconitum yesoense。英名はありません。

The "Ezo-torikabuto" (Aconitum yesoense) belongs to Ranunculaceae (the Buttercup family). It is a perennial herb that is native to central Hokkaido in Japan. This herb grows in lowlands to alpine zone, and can reach 1-2 m in height. The cauline leaves are tri-dissected, and the lobes are divided into shallow indented segments. The dark purple, helmet-shaped flowers bloom on the racemes from August to September. The peduncles have bent hairs. Its pollens are pollinated by bumblebees.
