わが国の本州、中部地方以北から北海道、それに朝鮮半島や千島列島、カムチャッカ半島、北アメリカ北部に分布しています。亜高山帯の林内に生え、高さは１０〜２０センチになります。茎には４稜があり、直立します。葉は小さな広倒卵形で、４個が輪生します。６月から７月ごろ、上部の葉腋から集散花序をだし、小さな淡黄緑色の花を咲かせます。花冠の先は４裂します。

アカネ科ヤエムグラ属の多年草で、学名は Galium kamtschaticum。英名は Boreal bedstraw。

Boreal bedstraw (Galium kamtschaticum) belongs to Rubiaceae (the Madder family). It is a perennial herb that is distributed northward from Chubu district of Honshu to Hokkaido of Japan, the Korean Peninsula, the Kuril Islands, the Kamchatska Peninsula and northern North America. This herb grows in subalpine forests and can reach 10-20 cm in height. The stem is quadrangular and erect. The leaves are small broad-obovate and four whorled. The cymes are borne on the upper axiles and bloom pale yelowish-green flowers from June to July. The corolla is four-lobate.
