"Ibuki-azami" (Cirsium confertissimum var. herbicola) belongs to Asteraceae (the Aster family). It is a perennial herb that is distributed in the Ibuki Mountains and the northern part of the Suzuka Mountains in Honshu, Japan. It is considered to be an intermediate type between "Koibuki-azami" and "Hime-azami". It grows in grassland in mountainous areas and grows to a height of about 1 m. The cauline leaves are oblong and pinnately lobed, and it produces pale purple-red flowers at the ends of its branched branches from August to October. In the Ibuki Mountains, it is most commonly found from the mid-slope to the foot of the mountain. The photos were taken near the north ridge junction of the trail in the Ibuki Mountains.
