"Ibuki-jako-so" (Thymus serpyllum ssp. quinquecostatus) belongs to the Lamiaceae (the Mint family). It is an evergreen shrub that is native to Japan, the Korean Peninsula, China, Mongolia and the Himalaya. This shrub grows in montane to alpine screes and forms a carpet clump by creeping stems. The leaves are ovate to narrow-ovate and opposite. The flowers are magenta, pale pose pink or rarely white labiate and bloom from June to August. The plant has musky smell and used as a herbal medicine for excessive sweating.
