"Ikari-sugi" (Cryptomeria japonica cv. Lycopodioides) belongs to Taxodiaceae (the Bald cypress family). It is a small evergreen tree that is a horticultural variety of the Japanese cedar, which is found in Honshu, Shikoku, and Kyushu in Japan. It is characterized by its irregularly produced branches, which droop down from front to back and from side to side. It is also characterized by its small and short leaves. The horticultural name comes from the resemblance of its branches and leaves to those of the "Common club moss" (Lycopodium clavatum).
