The Many-fruited deeringia (Deeringia polysperma) belongs to Amaranthaceae (the Amaranth family). It is an evergreen shrub that is distributed from Japan's Miyako Islands to the Yaeyama Islands, as well as in Taiwan, Guangdong and Hainan provinces in China, the Philippines, the Indochina Peninsula, and northern India. It grows in limestone regions of low mountainous areas and is a vine that can reach a length of about 5 m. The leaves are ovate-lanceolate to lanceolate, with entire margins, and are alternate. It produces spike-like inflorescences from the leaf axils, bearing small greenish-white flowers. The fruit is a spherical berry that ripens to white. It is classified as Critically Endangered (CR) in the Ministry of the Environment's Red List. In Taiwanese Chinese, it is called "多子漿果莧", and "白漿果莧" (bai jiang guo xian) in Chinese.
