東南アジアから太平洋諸島にかけて分布しています。茎は太くて直立し、高さは１．８メートルを越えることもあります。葉身は明るい緑色で、長さ１．２メートル、幅６０センチです。夏に、仏炎苞につつまれた目立たない花を咲かせます。

サトイモ科クワズイモ属の常緑多年草で、学名は Alocasia macrorrhiza。英名は Elephant ear。

|
The Elephant ear (Alocasia macrorrhiz) belongs to Araceae (the Arum family). It is an evergreen herb that is distributed from Southeast Asia to the Pacific Islands. The stems are thick and upright, and the height may exceed 1.8 m. The leaf blade is bright green, 1.2 m long and 60 cm wide. In summer, inconspicuous flowers bloom in the spathe.
