The "Inu-goma" (Stachys riederi var. intermedia) belong to Lamiaceae (the Mint family). It is a perennial herb that is distributed throughout Japan. This herb grows in wet places and can reach 40-70 cm in height. The stem is quadrangular and erect. The downward short spines are borne on the stem ridges. The leaves are lanceolate and opposite. The pale purple labiate flowers come in July through September. The lips are trilobate with rose-pink fine mottles.
