The "Inu-iwagane-so" (Coniogramme x fauriei) belongs to the family Parkeriaceae. It is an evergreen fern that is distributed from Honshu to Shikoku, Kyushu in Japan, as well as Taiwan, the Korean Peninsula, and China. It is an interspecific hybrid of "Iwagane-zenmai" (Coniogramme intermedia) and "Iwagane-so" (Coniogramme japonica), and can be seen rather rarely where the presumptive mother species grows in mixtures. In appearance, there are two types, one resembling "Iwagane-zenmai" and the other resembling "Iwagane-so". The lateral veins of the pinna are joined in places to form a reticulation. The sorus is sparsely attached from the midrib along the lateral veins to the middle of the limb.
