ヨーロッパが原産です。現在では、あちこちに帰化しています。道路沿いや荒れ地などに生え、高さは５０センチほどになります。葉は線形で対生し、茎を抱きます。５月から６月ごろ、小さなピンク色の花を小さな卵形の花序に咲かせます。花はふつう、一度に一個ずつしか見ることがありません。

ナデシコ科コモチナデシコ属の越年草で、学名は Petrorhagia nanteuilii。英名は Childing pink。

Childing pink (Petrorhagia nanteuilii) belongs to the Caryophyllaceae (the Carnation family). It is a winter annual herb that is native to Europe. It has also become naturalized elsewhere nowadays. This herb grows on roadsides or waste places, and can reach up to 50 cm in height. The leaves are linear, opposite and stem clasping. The small pink flowers bloom in small ovate clusters from May to June. They are usually visible only one at a time.
