わが国の本州、関東地方・長野県以北から北海道、それにユーラシア大陸や北アメリカに分布しています。日当たりのよい湿地に生え、高さは２０〜６０センチになります。根茎は地下を伸び、広がります。節から数本の小枝を輪生します。４月から６月ごろ、栄養茎の先端に胞子嚢穂をつけます。

トクサ科トクサ属の多年草で、学名は Equisetum palustre。英名は Marsh horsetail。

Marsh horsetail (Equisetum palustre) belongs to Equisetaceae (the Horsetail family). It is a perennial herb that is distributed northward from Kanto district and Nagano prefecture of Honshu to Hokkaido, Eurasia and North America. This herb grows in sunny marshes and can reach 20-60 cm in height. The rootstocks grow out and spread under ground. Several branchlets are borne verticillately on the nodes. The spore spikes are borne at the apex of shoot from April to June.
