The "Inu-tsuruda-kana-warabi" (Arachniodes x repens) belongs to the family Dryopteridaceae. It is an evergreen fern that is distributed in the Kii Peninsula of Honshu, Kochi Prefecture in Shikoku, and Kyushu. It is an interspecific hybrid between "Hosoba-kana-warabi" (Arachniodes aristata) and "Tsuruda-kana-warabi" (Arachniodes yaoshanensis). It grows in the forest floor of mountains and is 50 to 100 cm tall. The leaves are dark green and glossy, with a 2 times bipinnate compound. The sorus is attached to the midrib of the lobes, and the indusium is reniform. The Japanese name comes from the fact that it was first discovered in Tsuruda-cho, Satsuma-gun, Kagoshima Prefecture.
