The Violet cress (Ionopsidium acaule) belongs to Brassicaceae (the Mustard family). It is an annual herb that is native to Portugal. It resembles the violet, but is a close relative of the genus Iberis. It is dwarf, about 10 cm tall, and spreads in a carpet-like. It produces small, light purple or white, four-petaled flowers from November to April. The flowers are aromatic.
