The Delicate violet orchid (Ionopsis utricularioides) belongs to Orchidaceae (the Orchid family). It is an evergreen perennial herb that is widely distributed from Florida in the United States to the West Indies, and from Mexico to Central America, Venezuela, and Brazil. It grows on rocky ledges and around swampy areas and attaches itself to trees and rocks. The long, branched flower stalks produce white to pale red flowers. The color of the lip is highly variable, ranging from purple streaks on a white background to purple all over.
