"Ishigaki-sumire" (Viola tashiroi var. tairae) belongs to Violaceae (the Violet family). It is a perennial herb that is endemic to Ishigaki Island of the Ryukyu Islands. It is a variety of "Yaeyama-sumire". This herb grows in mountain stream banks and can reach 3-6 cm in height. The leaves are dark green deltoid with truncate bases. The white flowers bloom from February to April. The labial petal has pale magent veins and the lateral petals have short hairs at the bases.
