The Du gen cai (Oresitrophe rupifraga) belongs to Saxifragaceae (the Saxifrage family). It is a perennial herb that is distributed in Hebei Province, western Liaoning Province, and eastern Shanxi Province in northeastern China. It grows on canyon cliffs at elevations of 600-2100 m, in crevices in rocks, etc., and is 15-30 cm tall. From May to September, it produces a flower scape that produces white to pale pink flowers about 1 cm in diameter. The fruit is a 4 mm capsule. It is also called "dokkon-so" in Japan. In Chinese, it is called "独根草" (du gen cai).
