わが国の各地をはじめ、南千島にも分布しています。一属一種で、わが国の固有種です。深山の林内に生え、高さは10〜20センチになります。葉は根茎から1個でます。5月から7月ごろ、花茎を伸ばして小さな花を咲かせます。唇弁は3裂し、中裂片は大きく白色で紫色の斑点があります。側弁や萼片は淡い緑色です。 
ラン科イチヨウラン属の多年草で、学名は Dactylostalix ringens。英名はありません。 
"Ichiyou-ran" (Dactylostalix ringens) belongs to Orchidaceae (the Orchid family). It is a perennial herb that is distributed in various parts of Japan as well as in the southern Kuril Islands. It is the sole species in the genus, and it is endemic to Japan. It grows in deep mountain forests and grows 10 to 20 cm tall. From May to July, the flower stalks grow and small flowers bloom. The labellum has three lobes, and the middle lobes are large and white with purple spots. The lateral petals and sepals are pale green.
