わが国の北海道東部や南西部の余市山系、本州の日光や尾瀬、それに北半球の亜寒帯地域に分布しています。湖沼周辺の湿地などに生え、高さは５センチほどになります。茎は細くて地面を這い、葉は糸状です。７月から９月ごろ、茎頂に直径１センチほどの黄色い花を咲かせます。花弁は５〜９個あります。

The Creeping spearwort (Ranunculus reptans) belongs to Ranunculaceae (the Buttercup family). It is a perennial herb that is native to eastern and south-western Hokkaido; the Yoich Mountains, Nikko and Oze in Honshu, and the subarctic region of Northern Hemispere. This herb grows in marshes around lakes and can reach about 5 cm in height. The stems are slender and creeping on the ground, and the leaves are filiform. The yellow flowers about 1 cm across bloom on the terminal apices from July to September. The flower has 5-9 petals.
