アメリカの東部から中部に分布しています。短い茎から葉が束生し、高さは１．２メートルほどになります。葉は剣状で硬く、若い葉の縁が白い糸状に剥げるのが特徴です。６月から８月ごろ、９０〜１８０センチの花茎を伸ばして、総状花序にベル形の白い花を咲かせます。写真の中２〜５・下は斑入りの園芸品種、「ゴールデンスウォード（cv. Golden Sword）」。

リュウゼツラン科イトラン属の常緑小低木で、学名は Yucca filamentosa。英名は Adam's needle。

The Adam's needle (Yucca filamentosa) belongs to Agavaceae (the Agave family). It is an evergreen shrub that is native to the eastern and central United States. This shrub can reach about 1.2 m in height. The leaves are sword-shaped, stiff and crowded at the short stem. The leaf-edges peel off in filiform when young. The long stalk 90-180 cm long is borne and blooms bell-shaped white flowers in racemes from June to August. The below 3 photos are a cultivar 'Golden Sword'.
