The "Iwagane-so" (Coniogramme japonica) belongs to the family Parkeriaceae. It is an evergreen fern that is distributed from Honshu to Shikoku and Kyushu in Japan, as well as Taiwan, the Korean Peninsula, and China. It grows on the forest floor in low mountains to mountainous areas and grows 70 to 140 cm tall. The upper leaves are single pinnate compound, and the lower leaves are bipinnate compound. The leaf blade is yellowish green to green, glossy, and thickly herbaceous. The petiolar base is covered with brownish-brown scales. The lateral veins of the pinnae join together to form a network. The sorus is linear along the veins of the leaf, joining them in a reticulate pattern and extending close to the edge. In Taiwanese Chinese, it is called "日本鳳了蕨" and "鳳了蕨" (feng liao jue) in Chinese.
