The Blume spirea (Spiraea blumei) belongs to Rosaceae (the Rose family). It is a small deciduous tree that is distributed from the Kinki region of Honshu west to Shikoku, Kyushu in Japan, as well as the Korean Peninsula, and China. It grows naturally on limestone rocks in sunny locations and is 1 to 1.5 m tall. It produces small white flowers in corymbs at the tips of new branches from April to May. The Japanese name comes from the umbrella-like shape of the inflorescence, which grows in rocky areas.
