わが国の本州、中部地方以北から北海道、千島に分布しています。亜高山帯から高山帯の湿地に生え、高さは２０〜４０センチになります。葉は根生して、腎形で厚く、縁には細かい鋸歯があります。また長い葉柄があります。７月から８月ごろ、花茎を伸ばして白色の花を咲かせます。花冠は深く５裂し、縁にはしわがあります。和名は、岩のあるところに生え、葉が「いちょう」に似ていることから。 |

ミツガシワ科イワイチョウ属の多年草で、学名は Fauria crista-galli。英名はありません。 |

The "Iwa-ichou" (Fauria crista-galli) belongs to the family Menyanthaceae. It is a perennial herb that is distributed northward from Chubu district of Honshu to Hokkaido in Japan and the Kuril Islands. This herb grows in marshes of subalpine to alpine zone and can reach 20-40 cm in height. The leaves are basal and reniform with fine toothed edges and long petioles. The white flowers come on the stalks from July to August. The corolla is divided into 5-lobes with wrinkled edges. The Japanese name comes from its growth in rocky areas and leaves resembling those of the ginkgo tree. |
